How they were made
I created my series of popup robots as part of the #MarchofRobots2024 challenge where illustrators from around the world create and share robot illustrations based on a daily prompt word throughout the month of March.  I combined my love for robots, cupcakes, and the idea of transforming two very different things together into 31 popup creations.
While each dieline is unique, I kept most of my mechanisms similar throughout the series. Each robot is built on a slider that opens the cupcake when the top of the frosting is pulled. Most robots have arms that flip and open on v-folds, with a few that use a twister.  A handful of robots include a body shield to tie in with their design theme, and a few have a unique mechanic added to them. There is a robot with extra clapping hands, one with a pull-out ladder, and one with birds that peek out.
Each robot was designed and illustrated in Adobe Illustrator and printed on a double-sided 8.5x11" sheet of cardstock.
